Role Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and tech-savvy school librarian to manage our innovative digital library and provide comprehensive information literacy services to students, staff, and the school community. The successful candidate will oversee both physical and digital collections, integrate cutting-edge library management technology, and foster a love of reading and research while supporting the school’s digital learning initiatives. This role combines traditional library science with modern digital information management and the integration of educational technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the comprehensive digital library system, including cataloguing, circulation, and inventory control
- Oversee the integrated library management system (LMS) for efficient resource tracking and user management
- Maintain and organise both physical and digital collections, including e-books, databases, and multimedia resources
- Implement and manage digital checkout systems for books, devices, and educational materials
- Coordinate with IT support to ensure optimal functionality of all library technology systems
- Oversee maintenance and updates of library computers, tablets, and other technology equipment
- Ensure seamless integration between library systems and the school’s education management system
- Develop and maintain a balanced collection of print and digital resources aligned with curriculum needs
- Evaluate, select, and recommend age-appropriate books, e-books, audiobooks, and digital media
- Manage subscriptions to educational databases, online resources, and digital learning platforms
- Collaborate with teachers to identify and procure resources that support classroom instruction
- Conduct regular collection assessment and weeding to maintain current and relevant materials
- Research and recommend emerging digital tools and resources for educational use
- Educate students on digital citizenship, online safety, and ethical use of information
- Provide technical support for library users accessing digital resources and databases
- Train students and staff on the proper use of library technology and digital tools
- Develop and implement comprehensive reading promotion programs for all age groups
- Organise author visits, book clubs, reading challenges, and literacy events
- Create engaging displays and programs to promote new books and reading initiatives
- Collaborate with teachers to support classroom reading programs and literature studies
- Provide readers’ advisory services to help students discover books and resources
- Maintain and promote reading programs
- Support reluctant readers through personalised book recommendations and engagement strategies
- Foster a welcoming library environment that encourages reading and learning
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or Library and Information Studies from an ALA-accredited program
- Valid school librarian certification or media specialist endorsement
- Current knowledge of library science principles and practices
- Training in educational technology and digital library management is preferred
- Minimum one year of library experience, preferably in school or educational settings
- Demonstrated experience with integrated library management systems and digital resources
- Experience with educational technology and digital learning platforms
- Experience working with children and adolescents in educational environments
- Knowledge of collection development and resource evaluation processes
