Role Summary
The Janitor will ensure that all areas of the school environment are clean, hygienic, and well-maintained. The role involves daily cleaning of classrooms, offices, reception, the library, walkways, the courtyard, toilets, and surrounding areas. The Janitor will also support the care of kindergarten pupils when accidents or messes occur, ensuring a safe and sanitary space for all learners and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Clean and disinfect classrooms, including floors, whiteboards, windows, furniture, and digital devices (where applicable).
- Clean office spaces, reception, digital library, and common rooms daily.
- Sanitize all toilets, washbasins, and fixtures; ensure toilet paper and soap are replenished.
- Clean walkways, courtyard, and the surrounding outdoor school environment regularly.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the playground and ensure it is safe and tidy at all times.
- Dust and wipe down desks, chairs, shelves, and all furniture across the facility.
- Dispose of all waste properly, empty bins, and ensure waste areas are tidy.
- Clean up children in kindergarten (KG1–KG3) when they soil or mess themselves.
- Disinfect changing areas and maintain a hygienic space for these procedures.
- Assist teachers with maintaining a sanitary classroom environment for young learners.
- Report any maintenance issues (broken tiles, water leaks, faulty lights, etc.) promptly to the Academy Manager.
- Secure and store all cleaning equipment and materials after use.
- Follow the school’s schedule for deep cleaning during holidays or special events.
- Work collaboratively with other cleaners and staff to maintain a high standard of hygiene and order.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of SSCE or equivalent.
- Prior experience in cleaning roles, especially in schools, is an advantage.
- Understanding of hygiene and safety standards.
- Ability to work with young children with care and patience.
- Physical stamina and attention to detail.
- Basic communication skills.
